Our Guide
A home that is messy or dirty can be an immediate turn off for a buyer. Spend the time and energy hiring a professional to clean your home prior to buyers walking through.
You want to show the buyer a blank slate which they can create their own space. They will open your closets and pantry doors. Organize these spaces and remove any unnecessary items. Remove family portraits from the walls and other personal items.
This goes hand in hand with a deep cleaning. If you have pets on the property, make sure you deodorize areas that can be overwhelming for buyers.
Buyers like to see neutral color tones. If you have a very personal accent wall, it's best to bring that back to neutral. Any stains or stratches should be removed or painted over with touch up. Fix or fill any cracking in the walls or ceiling.
Be sure all light bulbs are working properly. Your property should be shown in the best lighting possible. Be sure all blinds and shades are working properly.
Don't forget about the outdoor space. The walk up to the front door should be neat and free of any obstructions. Schedule a fall or spring cleanup if your listing during those time periods. Keep grass cut evenly and plant vibrant flowers.
Keep your utility areas clean and unobstructed. This sends the message the property that has been well kept and maintained. Keep records of any service you had on items like the roof or appliances. Buyers will want to know the last time the heating system has been serviced.
